Full Description
Start your private Santorini tour with a pick-up from your hotel, or from the old port (Skala) where your local guide will be waiting for you at the cruise arrivals pier.
The first stop on this wine culture exploration will be an old, private canava, the island’s underground caves used as a space for grape storage and wine making. Hear fascinating stories of locals who have mastered the island’s harsh weather conditions to create exceptional wines using ancient techniques and methods that are still in use today and participate in a 3-glass ‘cave’ wine tasting.
Next, through the narrow alleyways of a traditional village you’ll visit a former winery of distinct architecture and history where you’ll participate in a unique wine philosophy session. Experience an interactive musical wine journey and feel the euphoria and mysticism when the wine is paired with music while you taste 3 wine glasses of ancient Greek varieties and enjoy a mythological narration with ancient Greek wind and string instruments.
Since this is a wine tour after all, your last stop will have you sampling four more local wines paired with a platter of local, seasonal nibbles such as local meats and cheeses on the winery’s terrace with gorgeous sunset views.
Your wine tour of Santorini will sadly finish here, but you will definitely want to come back for more! Your guide will be more than happy to make recommendations for what else you can do, if your plans allow you more time on the island.
How you help the local community by joining this tour:
By visiting a local winery that follows traditional methods, you promote Santorini’s indigenous varieties of grapes and local ancient pruning techniques. By visiting an underground labyrinth that was the owner’s house cellar during his childhood, you will get a better understanding of local life and traditions in the past. You support local farmers and help preserve Satorini’s culinary traditions by sampling food locally sourced from Santorini and nearby islands.
