Full Description

Hello adventurous travellers!
Are you ready to ready to discover the most secret and underground monuments of this ancient city that are forgotten with the passing of time?
Me and my friend George, invite you to explore with us the unknown history of Thessaloniki!
In this tour you will see a variety of small unknown churches but also the most famous spots of the city. Both shape the important history of Thessaloniki.

We are going to start at Kamara and head to our first destination which used to be the horseracing arena where people would gather and watch the horses and chariots race, like people do now with modern football! But there is a dark history behind what seems like a peaceful quiet street nowadays.

Our next stop will be right next to Agia Sofia one of the biggest churches in Thessaloniki. However there are underground catacombs that no one knows about, ready to be explored, very close to this well known church.

After we get a first taste of this amazing experience we will visit Aristotelous square which is full of traditional craft shops and home to open markets (old and new). Also, if you look at it from above,it looks like a vodka bottle! After the Great fire of 1917, the French architect Hernest Hebrar was given the task to design the centre of Thessaloniki, including this famous square which connects the west and east parts of the city.

Our next historical sight is the ancient Roman forum where we will discover all the interesting aspects around it. Also we have to tell you about the column that shaped the forum’s history during the time of the dictatorship in Greece in the 1960s.

Of course we can’t miss the Holy protector of the city Saint Dimitrios. Everyone knows about this famous church which is the most important symbol of early Christianity but who knows what’s lied underneath the church?

Then we have to try the most famous pastry of Thessaloniki at the best place! Enjoy with us the best Balkan sweet next to one of the most important churches for Christianity!

Stick with us because there is still a lot to see! We can’t miss the Musa Baba tomb in Ano Poli with the urban myth that surrounds this tomb!

Walking back to our beginning point we will discover all the little secrets of Ano Poli and see how it feels like to live in a village close to the city centre.
To top it off we will finish our tour at the Gardens of Pasha which have a mysterious story surrounding them and a very good view of Thessaloniki!

All in all you will get an insider’s view of Thessaloniki throughout the ages, as well as how it is in modern times.
